Cornetti
One thousand and one fillings.
In Paris they call it croissant, in Milan brioche, but in Palermo, where it is eaten for breakfast but even as a midnight snack, it is called simply Cornetto. The fillings of the fragrant puff are many, some places offer up to twelve or thirteen different types.
The most common are hollow or filled with jam, cream or Nutella but you can also find also those filled with pistachio cream, sweet ricotta cheese, soft fruit cream, coffee cream, strawberry cream, hazelnut cream or white chocolate cream. The Cornetto is the classic night-time dessert, eaten just before heading home, but more often the people of Palermo still prefer a savoury rotisserie item, even at 3 A.M.
